Telangana Receives INR 200 Cr to Strengthen State Maternal & Child Healthcare

Telangana has received an additional INR 200 crore from the central government to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services across the state.
The development was shared by Telangana Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha in a social media post, stating that the funding will be used to enhance healthcare infrastructure and services in government hospitals.
According to Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Dr. Sangeetha Satyanarayana, the Centre had acknowledged Telangana as one of the best-performing states in maternal and child health indicators and rewarded it with the additional funding to enhance services in government hospitals.
The additional allocation will support initiatives aimed at improving maternal and neonatal healthcare outcomes and expanding access to quality care across the state's public health system, she added.
The funding will be utilised to strengthen maternal and neonatal healthcare infrastructure, including the expansion of newborn care units in selected hospitals, modernisation of labour rooms and operation theatres in line with national quality standards, and the establishment of midwifery-led care units, Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) wards, and lactation management units.
The state also plans to install advanced monitoring systems in high-delivery hospitals to facilitate continuous monitoring of mothers and unborn babies during childbirth.
In addition, the funds will be used to upgrade government healthcare institutions to meet Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) and support hospitals in achieving National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification through infrastructure improvements and strengthened clinical services.
Highlighting the state government’s focus, Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha said, “Our government's goal is to provide top-quality medical services to every pregnant woman, every mother, and every newborn. These incentive funds play a pivotal role in further reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates and in ensuring the availability of quality maternal and child health services at every government hospital in the state.”
