Aarogya Setu 2.0: How India is Building a Citizen-Centric Digital Health Gateway

Aarogya Setu was born in a crisis. In 2020, it became one of India’s most recognisable digital tools for COVID-19 information, risk assessment and pandemic-related services. Six years later, its second iteration carries a radically different ambition. Launched on 29 June 2026, Aarogya Setu 2.0 has been repositioned by the National Health Authority (NHA) as a citizen-facing platform under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) .
This is not simply an old government app receiving new features. Aarogya Setu 2.0 represents a larger shift in India's digital-health strategy from building isolated digital services to giving citizens a single interface through which they can access an expanding national health infrastructure. The ambition is to bring together health records, healthcare discovery, digital services, consent management and AI-enabled insights while allowing the underlying ABDM ecosystem to remain interoperable and decentralised.
