The new features enable licensed doctors, nurses, mental health experts, and other healthcare professionals in India to apply for health source information panels and dedicated health content shelves.
YouTube Health has launched innovative features to help registered healthcare professionals in India connect with broader audiences and provide reliable medical information.
Announced via YouTube’s official blog, the initiative aligns with the platform’s commitment to making high-quality health content accessible worldwide.
“YouTube Health is dedicated to ensuring users can easily find authoritative health information, especially in a country like India, where the demand for credible resources is immense,” said Dr Garth Graham, Director and Global Head of Healthcare and Public Health Partnerships at YouTube.
The new features enable licensed doctors, nurses, mental health experts, and other healthcare professionals in India to apply for health source information panels and dedicated health content shelves.
Videos uploaded by verified professionals will be labeled as “from a healthcare professional,” making it easier for users to identify and trust the content.
“Our goal is to ensure people find reliable health information when they need it most. This labeling system is part of our ongoing effort to make YouTube a trusted platform for health content,” explained Dr Graham.
India’s vast and diverse population faces unique challenges in accessing reliable healthcare information, particularly in rural and underserved regions.
Accurate health content on platforms like YouTube can play a crucial role in bridging this gap, countering misinformation, and providing access to professional advice where traditional healthcare services may be limited.
Dr Graham emphasized the initiative's importance in India’s digital landscape, stating, “By spotlighting content from licensed professionals, we aim to build trust and offer users the confidence that the information they consume is rooted in medical expertise.”
Healthcare professionals who wish to use these features must provide proof of licensure and credentials during the application process.
Once verified, their content will appear under dedicated health content shelves, boosting the visibility of their videos and ensuring users receive accurate guidance from trusted sources.
“This program amplifies the voices of healthcare professionals while ensuring viewers get the expert advice they need,” noted Dr. Graham.
The initiative is part of YouTube Health’s broader commitment to combating misinformation.
By offering verified professionals a platform to share accurate content, YouTube aims to counter the spread of potentially harmful or false medical advice often prevalent on social media platforms.
“This is just the beginning,” the blog post stated, hinting at future tools and features to support healthcare professionals and enhance user trust further.
With these new features, YouTube Health is taking a significant step toward transforming how health information is disseminated and consumed in India.
