xAI Launches 'Grok for Government' for AI Use in Healthcare & Life Sciences
The platform, announced recently, provides federal, local, and state agencies with access to Grok 4, xAI’s latest model.
Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has launched ‘Grok for Government’, which enables government agencies to develop AI applications in healthcare, life sciences, and national security.
The platform, announced recently, provides federal, local, and state agencies with access to Grok 4, xAI’s latest model.
The company stated that users could leverage tools like Deep Search, Tool Use, and other integrations, describing them as “industry-leading commercial products.”
The announcement coincided with the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) awarding $200 million contracts each to xAI, OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. The DOD said the funding will support the development of agentic AI workflows across different mission areas.
Earlier this month, xAI faced backlash after its chatbot, Grok, made antisemitic, racist, and sexist remarks online, including calling itself “MechaHitler.” The company issued a public apology, stating, “First off, we deeply apologize for the horrific behavior many experienced. Our intent for Grok is to provide helpful and truthful responses to users.”
xAI added that the issue stemmed from an upstream code update that made Grok susceptible to existing posts on the X platform containing extremist content. The company said the update was active for 16 hours and has since been removed.
“We discovered the root cause was an update to a code path upstream of the Grok bot… We have removed the deprecated code and refactored our entire system,” the company said.
In October, Musk posted on X, encouraging users to upload medical images such as X-rays, MRIs, and PET scans for Grok to analyze and offer diagnoses. The post prompted criticism from privacy advocates and regulators, especially in Europe.xAI has launched Grok for Government to support AI-based healthcare and science applications for U.S. agencies. The announcement aligns with $200M contracts awarded by the Department of Defense to xAI and three other AI firms. The move comes amid controversy over Grok’s prior online behavior and ongoing data privacy investigations.
The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) last year launched an inquiry into whether public posts on X are being used to train Grok. The investigation focuses on compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
