World's Largest X-ray Imaging Components Facility Set Up at Vizag's AMTZ
A key highlight of the facility includes Cesium Iodide coating capabilities, technology critical to high-performance digital medical imaging, and produced for the first time in India.
In a significant development, Varex Imaging Corporation, a US-based medtech supplier, has launched the world's largest X-ray imaging components facility at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone, Vizag, strengthening its medical imaging manufacturing capabilities.
The move seeks to promote domestic production of high-precision diagnostic imaging technologies used across healthcare and allied sectors.
The new manufacturing unit will focus on flat panel detectors and other advanced medical imaging components used in X-ray systems.
Speaking at the launch, Jitendra Sharma, founder, CEO and managing director of AMTZ, said, “The entry of Varex into AMTZ validates India’s emergence as a trusted destination for complex, high-precision MedTech manufacturing. The localisation of flat panel detectors and CSI coating technology places India firmly on the global map of advanced diagnostic manufacturing and significantly strengthens our Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.”
A key highlight of the facility includes Cesium Iodide coating capabilities, technology critical to high-performance digital medical imaging, and produced for the first time in India. These components form the backbone of modern diagnostic imaging systems and are fundamental to providing accurate, low-dose, and high-resolution medical imaging.
Sunny Sanyal, the CEO and president of Varex Imaging Corporation, attributed significance to India in the company's long-term strategy. "India is one of the most important growth markets for medical imaging globally, and our investment at AMTZ reflects our confidence in India's manufacturing capabilities, regulatory ecosystem, and talent base," he said.
In addition to healthcare diagnostics, the medical imaging components manufactured at the Vizag facility will support dental and veterinary imaging, industrial non-destructive testing, and security screening applications at airports and ports.
Varex Imaging Corporation develops key components used in X-ray and diagnostic imaging systems. Its portfolio includes X-ray tubes and sources, digital flat-panel and photon-counting detectors, image processing software, and high-voltage accessories that power medical imaging equipment in hospitals and diagnostic centres.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by, among others, Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, Rajiv Nath, Managing Director of Hindustan Syringes and Medical Devices Ltd, and representatives from the Association of Indian Medical Device Industry, underlining the strategic importance of strengthening domestic medical imaging manufacturing for civilian healthcare and defence medical services.
