UnityAI has introduced StaffOps, an AI-driven workforce management platform aimed at aligning outpatient staffing with fluctuating patient demand.

The platform is currently deployed across approximately 120 care sites, supporting scheduling operations for multiple clinical organizations.

StaffOps connects directly with electronic health record (EHR) and human resources systems, providing real-time visibility into patient appointments, including cancellations and reschedules. This allows healthcare providers to adjust staffing levels dynamically based on patient flow rather than relying on fixed schedules.

The platform builds on UnityAI’s earlier deployment of AI agents focused on patient-facing workflows such as scheduling, intake, and follow-ups. Its voice AI capabilities also support outpatient clinics in managing inbound calls and patient engagement.

“What we’re trying to do is create excellent schedules,” said Edmund Jackson, co-founder and CEO of UnityAI, in an interview. “The challenge is not just placing patients on schedules but ensuring clinicians and staff are available in the right place at the right time to meet demand.”

Healthcare providers typically rely on pre-planned staffing models, which often fail to account for variability in patient volumes. This results in inefficiencies such as overstaffing in some areas and shortages in others, alongside increased appointment cancellations.

StaffOps addresses this by continuously syncing workforce availability with patient demand. The system evaluates staff credentials, preferences, and availability alongside appointment data to generate optimized schedules. Managers can then adjust for exceptions such as time-off requests, shift swaps, or last-minute changes.

The platform also provides a self-service interface for clinicians and staff, allowing them to request or release shifts and manage time-off requests without manual coordination. For administrators, it offers tools to quickly identify and fill staffing gaps, reducing disruptions to care delivery.

UnityAI is expanding its agentic AI capabilities to handle routine staffing decisions through voice and SMS, including processing call-offs and coordinating shift changes in real time.

Founded in 2023 by former engineers and data scientists from HCA Healthcare, UnityAI initially focused on hospital care orchestration before shifting to outpatient operations. The company raised $8.5 million in a Series A funding round in March to scale development of its AI-driven workforce platform.
