UAE Launches Dh4.7 Bn Global Endowment to Strengthen Healthcare Access

The endowment district will feature a hospital with the capacity to treat 90,000 patients annually, offering advanced medical care to underserved populations.

In a major step toward improving global healthcare accessibility, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has announced a permanent endowment district valued at Dh4.7 billion.

The initiative aims to channel its proceeds into global health and education projects.

Announcing the move on his X account, Sheikh Mohammed described it as a “perpetual charitable endowment whose proceeds will go towards supporting health and education projects worldwide.” He highlighted that the project is designed to create long-term, continuous impact across essential sectors like healthcare and medical education.

At the heart of this development lies a healthcare-first vision. The endowment district will feature a hospital with the capacity to treat 90,000 patients annually, offering advanced medical care to underserved populations.

It will also house a medical university to train the next generation of healthcare professionals and contribute to addressing the global shortage of skilled doctors and nurses.

The project’s integrated ecosystem extends beyond healthcare to include schools for 5,000 students, housing for 2,000 families, and endowment-owned retail outlets. Revenue generated from these facilities will be reinvested to sustain medical and humanitarian services.

Further, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that every aspect of the district “is designed to contribute to the continuity of giving,” blending infrastructure development with philanthropy.

He also thanked donors and partners who contributed to making the vision a reality, including Azizi Developments. “We extend our appreciation to everyone who strives to do good and works to sustain goodness in the nation of generosity and giving,” he said.

The initiative builds on the UAE’s ongoing efforts to make healthcare more inclusive and sustainable. Following the Volunteering and Community Engagement Ecosystem introduced earlier, this endowment reflects Sheikh Mohammed’s long-term vision of empowering communities through health, education, and social welfare.
