Thermo Fisher Scientific Expands Bengaluru R&D Center with INR 160 Cr Investment
Spread across 37,000 sq. ft., the center features advanced automation and analytical platforms to support immunoassays, protein analysis, and cell-based studies.
Thermo Fisher Scientific has expanded its Research and Development (R&D) Center of Excellence in Bengaluru, marking a key milestone in its India operations.
The upgraded facility was inaugurated by Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, CEO of the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM).
The company has invested over INR 160 crore in this expansion, reinforcing its long-term commitment to India’s research ecosystem. Spread across 37,000 sq. ft., the center features advanced automation and analytical platforms to support immunoassays, protein analysis, and cell-based studies. The expansion is expected to create more than 100 new jobs in the coming years, strengthening Karnataka’s life sciences ecosystem.
Speaking at the inauguration, Priyank Kharge, Minister for Electronics, IT & Biotechnology and Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, Government of Karnataka, said, “Karnataka has long positioned itself as a vibrant hub for biotechnology and life sciences. The expansion of Thermo Fisher’s facility is a testament to the state’s continued emphasis of this objective. Through our Karnataka Biotechnology Mission and aligned state policies, we are enabling innovation, nurturing talent, and facilitating collaboration between government, academia, and industry. This facility strengthens the state’s capability to contribute meaningfully to India’s broader biotechnology vision.”
Over the past 18 years, the Bengaluru Center of Excellence has developed more than 2,000 recombinant antibodies that have supported advancements in infectious diseases, antiviral studies, and cancer biology. The antibody validation program has tested over 25,000 antibodies, while its manufacturing capabilities have produced more than 2,000 primary and secondary antibodies to ensure quality and reproducibility for global researchers.
Bengaluru continues to serve as a strategic hub for Thermo Fisher in India, with more than 1,400 professionals working across R&D, software, and scientific product divisions.
