The decision to establish the GCC in Hyderabad follows an evaluation process in which the city stood out for its deep talent pool, advanced infrastructure, and supportive policy environment.
Swiss CDMO giant Lonza has selected Hyderabad as the site for its upcoming Global Capability Centre (GCC), a move expected to deepen the city’s role in the global biopharmaceutical value chain while creating high-value jobs and strengthening Telangana’s growing life sciences ecosystem.
Founded in 1897 and headquartered in Switzerland, Lonza Group AG is one of the world’s largest contract development and manufacturing organisations (CDMOs). The company operates more than 30 facilities worldwide and employs nearly 20,000 professionals across research, development, and manufacturing.
In 2025, Lonza reported sales of CHF 6.5 Bn and Core EBITDA of CHF 2.1 Bn, reflecting its strong position in the global biopharma services market.

A Lonza delegation met Telangana Industries and Commerce Minister D. Sridhar Babu and Telangana Life Sciences CEO Shakthi M. Nagappan to communicate the company’s plans and outline its vision for the centre.
“We are thrilled to welcome Lonza’s decision to establish its new centre in Hyderabad,” Minister Sridhar Babu said. “The city continues to stand out as the bright spot for global life sciences investments, driven by its strong scientific ecosystem, digital depth, and world-class manufacturing capabilities. Lonza’s investment further strengthens Telangana’s position as a preferred destination for innovation-led growth in the global biopharmaceutical industry.”
Shakthi Nagappan said the move adds to the momentum of Telangana’s rapidly expanding life sciences sector. “We are delighted that Lonza has chosen Hyderabad for this expansion. This decision marks another significant milestone in the continued expansion of Telangana’s life sciences ecosystem,” he said.
By setting up its GCC in Hyderabad, Lonza joins a growing list of global organisations leveraging the city’s scientific workforce and technology infrastructure to support worldwide research, development, and operational functions.
