STPI MedTech CoE Partners with GIMS, launching a new Clinical Innovation Spoke Centre
The new Spoke Centre will link STPI MedTech’s advanced prototyping capabilities with GIMS’ clinical innovation ecosystem to speed up the development and validation of medical technologies.
A new Spoke Centre of STPI MedTech Centre of Excellence will be set up at GIMS, Greater Noida, after the signing of an MoU between AIC STPINEXT Initiatives, STPI MedTech CoE and GIMS during a pre-event of AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.
The agreement was exchanged in the presence of senior leaders from MeitY, STPI, GIMS, and the Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI), marking a significant development in the MedTech and clinical innovation ecosystem of the country.
This is the first time any national MedTech Centre of Excellence has set up a Spoke Centre inside a public hospital environment, providing an integrated pathway right from early innovation to clinical use.
The new Spoke Centre at GIMS-CMI integrates the technical strengths of STPI MedTech CoE in Lucknow to include prototyping labs, regulatory expertise, digital health frameworks, and startup acceleration, with the deep clinical innovation capabilities at GIMS, including problem validation, immersion for innovators, clinician access, and real-world testing spaces.
The MoU provides for reciprocal access to facilities for startups on both sides. Innovators at the STPI MedTech CoE would be able to conduct clinical validation and user testing directly within the GIMS ecosystem for immediate clinician feedback. Meanwhile, startups developing solutions within GIMS-CMI can use the advanced MedTech infrastructure, high-end labs, and national support systems at STPI in Lucknow.
The shared model is expected to substantially smooth the path from idea to prototype, clinical validation, and scale-up.
Officials, during the MoU exchange, emphasised that it is of the essence to bring clinical insight closer to designing and prototyping in MedTech, adding that such partnerships may dramatically accelerate India's capability to design and commercialise world-ready medical technologies.
It is strategically located in the NCR and is expected to further enhance MedTech resources in Greater Noida, while making access easier for innovators across Uttar Pradesh and North India.
The arrangement also encourages deeper collaboration between clinicians, engineers, researchers, and technology developers.
It will merge clinical innovation with sophisticated MedTech capabilities to catalyse the creation of affordable, high-quality medical devices and digital health solutions that can scale nationally and compete globally.
