Sterling Hospitals Appoints Santosh Marathe as New MD & CEO

Marathe joins the Gujarat-based hospital chain after holding senior roles across major Indian and international healthcare systems.

Sterling Hospitals has appointed senior healthcare executive Santosh Marathe as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership shift as the network prepares for its next phase of expansion and operational strengthening.

Marathe joins the Gujarat-based hospital chain after holding senior roles across major Indian and international healthcare systems.

With more than two decades of experience leading multi-hospital networks, Marathe brings strong operational expertise, strategic focus, and a track record of improving performance across complex healthcare organisations. His appointment comes at a time when Sterling Hospitals is consolidating its regional presence and advancing infrastructure upgrades across its units.

Sterling Hospitals, known as Gujarat’s first corporate hospital network, operates facilities in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Gandhidham. The group runs six NABH-accredited hospitals, including two oncology units, with a combined capacity of over 1,000 beds. The network has been investing in infrastructure modernisation and evaluating expansion opportunities over the past few years.

Before joining Sterling, Marathe served as Chief Operating Officer at NMC Healthcare, where he oversaw 16 JCI-accredited hospitals, long-term care facilities, multiple laboratories, and enterprise-wide financial and operational performance. His portfolio included P&L leadership, doctor productivity metrics, integration of specialty programs, and redesigning operations across business units.

Prior to NMC Healthcare, Marathe spent nearly eight years at Apollo Hospitals, serving as Regional CEO for the Western Region across Navi Mumbai, Nashik, Ahmedabad, and Gandhinagar. He also led physician practice acquisitions, EMR adoption programs, and revenue improvement measures across the region.

Marathe’s appointment is expected to support Sterling Hospitals’ ongoing focus on improving clinical outcomes, strengthening operational systems, and refining care delivery across its network.
