The expansion initiative aims to strengthen emergency and specialised healthcare services while increasing the institute's overall patient care capacity.
Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Lucknow, has announced a major expansion of its healthcare infrastructure with the addition a 1,010-bed super-speciality hospital and of a 350-bed Level-1 Trauma Centre.
The initiative was announced by Prof CM Singh, Director of RMLIMS, during a recent event at the institute.
The expansion initiative aims to strengthen emergency and specialised healthcare services while increasing the institute's overall patient care capacity.
As per the institution, the proposed trauma centre will be developed near its second campus at Shaheed Path, making it the second such facility in the state after KGMU.
Reporters indicate that the state govt has allotted around 16,000 sq m of land for the project aimed at reducing pressure on the existing trauma centre in KGMU.
The planned trauma centre is expected to enhance the institute's ability to manage critical injuries and emergency cases requiring advanced medical intervention.
In parallel, a 100-bed critical care centre is nearing completion to address the shortage of ICU beds, while hostels with a combined capacity of 888 beds are currently under construction.
As part of the broader expansion, RMLIMS is also planning a 1,010-bed super-speciality hospital. The proposed facility is expected to support the delivery of advanced clinical services across multiple specialties and help address the increasing demand for tertiary care in the region.
In addition, the institute plans to launch liver and bone marrow transplant services this year.
According to officials, the required infrastructure has been established, and most of the equipment has already been procured.
Further, a Gamma Knife facility for advanced neurosurgery is expected to become operational soon. The institute's neurosciences centre has already undertaken complex procedures, including deep-brain stimulation surgery for Parkinson's disease.
Highlighting the significance of the proposed expansion, Prof CM Singh stated that the expansion will improve patient care by ensuring timely treatment, reducing waiting periods, and easing the load on existing hospitals.
He added that the new facilities will enable comprehensive treatment under one roof, reducing the need for referrals outside the state.
The proposed expansion builds on RMLIMS's recent investments in advanced healthcare infrastructure.
Last year, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated healthcare initiatives worth approximately INR 298 crore at the institute, including the state's first Advanced Neurosciences Centre, the foundation stone for Uttar Pradesh's first Gamma Knife facility, and the introduction of a robotic surgery system.
