Ramgarh Named Jharkhand’s Model District for Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

The model district programme will prioritise 100% ABHA saturation, registration of public and private healthcare facilities, and paperless OPD services.

Ramgarh has been selected as Jharkhand’s model district for the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), with the district set to serve as a benchmark for digital health adoption, focusing on ABHA saturation, connected health facilities, and paperless healthcare services.

At the Ramgarh workshop, Dr Sunil Kumar Barnwal, CEO, NHA, said the district has the potential to become the country’s first fully digital health model district.

"ABHA patients would not need to carry health files, and doctors could access health history with consent. This will reduce delays, especially during emergencies, for chronic patients and while travelling to other cities and states, as people generally do not carry their medical files," Barnwal said.

He said one district from every state has been selected under the State Model District initiative to accelerate ABDM adoption.

The model district programme will prioritise 100% ABHA saturation, registration of public and private healthcare facilities, and paperless outpatient department services.

The district administration has said that ABDM camps will be conducted across blocks and panchayats to expand registrations.

Ramgarh has already achieved 75% ABHA saturation, according to Deputy Commissioner Rituraj.

The workshop also included demonstrations on ABHA creation, health facility registration, healthcare professional registration, and QR code-based paperless patient registration.

These components are designed to reduce dependence on physical records and make healthcare information more portable across facilities.

Dr Pankaj Arora, Director, NHA, said at the launch that digital health could become as routine as digital payments. He noted that just as UPI has become part of everyday transactions, every individual could eventually have their own health record.

For Ramgarh, the focus now moves from registration to ecosystem-wide adoption, with hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and pharmacies expected to connect with ABDM and make digital health services part of routine care.
