Rajeev Kher Appointed Chairperson of Star Health Insurance

Star Health Insurance has announced the appointment of Rajeev Kher as the new Chairperson of its Board of Directors.

The decision, which was made during a Board meeting on April 29, 2025, is awaiting approval from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).

Kher, a seasoned expert with over 40 years of experience in international trade, industrial development, and sustainable governance, is poised to lead Star Health through its next growth phase.

In response to his appointment, Kher expressed his commitment to improving India’s health insurance sector, stating, “I am deeply honoured to take on this responsibility when health insurance is becoming central to India’s social and economic resilience. Star Health has pioneered this space, with a strong reputation for customer focus, innovation, and execution. We will focus on inclusive growth, ethical leadership, and institutional excellence.”

Leadership Built on Policy Expertise and Governance

Rajeev Kher, an Independent Director at Star Health, brings extensive experience in governance and policy.

He previously served as the Commerce Secretary to the Government of India and has held key positions in both the Ministries of Environment and Commerce.

Kher also served as a Member of the Competition Appellate Tribunal, contributing significantly to India’s Foreign Trade Policy (2015–2020). His leadership has shaped global trade regulations, and his expertise continues to influence key global corporations and policy think tanks.
