In a significant move aimed at improving the lives of children with hearing disabilities, Pune-based Dr DY Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre has initiated a cochlear implant program.

This program, supported by the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) scheme, represents a crucial step towards enhancing the quality of life for deaf-mute children.

The cochlear implant surgery, a medical procedure with the potential to transform the lives of those with hearing disabilities, is at the core of this initiative. The institution aims to positively impact by providing this service to those most in need.

Sharing thoughts on the same, Dr PD Patil, chancellor of Dr DY Patil Medical College, said, "The cochlear implant program is a testament to our dedication to societal well-being and medical innovation. We believe in giving a voice to those silenced by hearing disabilities, shaping a brighter future for these children."

The first cochlear implant surgery, conducted under the mentorship of Prof Dr Hetal Marfatia from KEM Mumbai, marked a significant step forward. Dr Vinod Shinde and Dr Mubarak Khan, distinguished professors at Dr DY Patil Medical College, played crucial roles, supported by an anesthesia team.

Commenting on the same, Dr Bhagyashree Patil, pro-chancellor, said, "Our journey has always been about pushing boundaries and making a profound impact. This program exemplifies our dedication to uplifting the lives of deaf-mute children, offering them the incredible gift of hearing and speech."

This initiative has opened new doors for children with hearing disabilities, allowing them to experience the world differently.

In a related development in October, Telerad Foundation, the CSR arm of the Telerad Group, collaborated with the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health (IGICH) to enhance paediatric radiology services, aiming to elevate healthcare standards for young patients.

As part of this partnership, Telerad Foundation has provided IGICH with RADSpa, an AI-enabled radiology workflow platform, along with essential technical support and software maintenance for five years.
