Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center Appoints Joe Kim as Chief Medical Officer

At Providence Saint Joseph, Dr. Kim will oversee medical affairs, lead clinical quality and safety initiatives, and guide strategic priorities for patient care across the hospital. 

Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California, has appointed Joe Kim, M.D., MPH, FACP, FACHE, as chief medical officer, effective January 5, 2026.

Dr. Kim brings over 15 years of leadership experience in academic medical centers and integrated health systems. He is recognized nationally for his work in clinical quality, patient safety, population health, digital innovation, and healthcare equity.

At Providence Saint Joseph, Dr. Kim will oversee medical affairs, lead clinical quality and safety initiatives, and guide strategic priorities for patient care across the hospital. His role includes shaping approaches to enhance patient outcomes and overall care experience in the region.

Dr. Kim previously served as chief medical officer and designated institutional official at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center, where he managed medical staff affairs, clinical strategy, and graduate medical education for more than 1,200 affiliated physicians. He has also held leadership roles at Dignity Health – California Hospital Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Health System.

Dr. Kim earned a bachelor’s degree in natural sciences/public health from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Public Health from Columbia University, and a medical degree from George Washington University. He completed his residency in internal medicine and primary care at Yale School of Medicine and a postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA School of Medicine. He is a fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Healthcare Executives and was named among Becker’s “Top Chief Medical Officers to Know” in 2024 and 2025.
