Providence’s Cherodeep Goswami Joins American Board of Surgery’s Board of Directors

The Board oversees the ABS from a business standpoint and provides governance for the ABS Council and its specialty boards, which are composed of ABS-certified surgeons.

Cherodeep Goswami, Chief Information and Digital Officer at Providence has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the American Board of Surgery (ABS). His three-year term commenced on July 1, 2025.

Goswami is among a select group of non-physicians to serve on the 14-member board, which comprises surgeons and public members. The Board oversees the ABS from a business standpoint and provides governance for the ABS Council and its specialty boards, which are composed of ABS-certified surgeons.

“I’m honored to serve on the ABS Board and help guide an organization that has played a vital role in elevating surgical care across the country since 1937,” said Goswami. “I look forward to upholding the mission of ABS by embracing the possibilities that technology offers today while helping usher in the next wave of surgeons.”

With three decades of experience in digital transformation within healthcare, Goswami brings significant expertise to the Board. Before joining Providence, he was the System Vice President of Information Services and Chief Information and Digital Officer at the University of Wisconsin Health in Madison.

He has also held strategic leadership roles at BJC Healthcare in Missouri, where he focused on IT, informatics, and digital health initiatives. 

In 2023, Goswami was recognized as “CIO of the Year” for statewide healthcare and large enterprise leaders at the CIO ORBIE Awards.

In addition to his new role on the ABS Board, he serves on Microsoft’s Academic Medical Center Advisory Board and several startup advisory boards.
