President Droupadi Murmu was the chief guest at the golden jubilee celebrations of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) held at the NIMHANS Convention Centre. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister for Medical Education Sharan Prakash Patil were also present at the event.
During the celebrations, President Murmu inaugurated the new psychiatry block, central library complex, and hostel building. Additionally, she dedicated advanced medical equipment, including an AI-enabled 3T MRI scanner and a Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) machine, to the institute.
The 3T MRI scanner, capable of providing high-resolution images, will assist in early diagnosis, while the DSA machine, featuring 3D rotational angiography, will help assess brain damage. These facilities are expected to improve mental health diagnosis and patient care at NIMHANS.
In her address, President Murmu said, “Innovative research and rigorous academic programme with exceptional patient care has made NIMHANS an undisputed leader in the field of mental health and neurosciences. The Bellary model of community-based mental healthcare has made history.”
This visit marks a key moment in Bengaluru's healthcare sector, underscoring the city’s growing reputation in mental health services and medical research.
Earlier, in November, NIMHANS launched an Integrated and Automated OPD Registration Block, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing digital transformation efforts. The newly introduced registration kiosks offer patients the convenience of self-registration, eliminating the need to wait in traditional queues. Designed to streamline the OPD process, these kiosks allow patients to complete registration independently and, if necessary, proceed with payments at the counter or through online options.
