OhioHealth to Expand Use of Abridge AI Platform Across Ambulatory Care Sites
This move aligns with OhioHealth’s commitment to reducing administrative burden for clinicians and delivering high-quality care to 1.6 million patients across more than 200 ambulatory care settings annually.
OhioHealth, a Columbus-based non-profit healthcare system, plans to scale the deployment of Abridge’s enterprise-grade artificial intelligence platform ambulatory care sites.
This move aligns with OhioHealth’s commitment to reduce administrative burden for clinicians, streamline workflows, and provide quality care to 1.6 million patients across more than 200 ambulatory care settings annually.
Commenting on the new initiative, Dr. Andrew Narcelles, Medical Director of Clinical Informatics at OhioHealth, said, “Our collaboration with Abridge is reducing the administrative burden for our clinicians and enabling them to connect with patients rather than computer screens.”
Following a rigorous competitive pilot and evaluation, OhioHealth said it will expand the use of the Abridge AI platform, which is designed to reduce administrative burden by transforming clinical conversations into structured documentation that can be used in electronic health records (EHRs).
Reportedly, during the pilot, clinicians reported measurable benefits, including a 59% reduction in cognitive load and a 28% decrease in time spent writing notes outside of work hours, allowing them to spend more focused time with patients.
In addition to its initial deployment among the primary care, women’s health, and neurology clinicians, the platform will now be extended to all ambulatory providers at OhioHealth, including specialists in oncology, heart and vascular care, surgery, acute care, and graduate medical education.
Furthermore, the health system is also exploring further applications of the technology in nursing, emergency medicine, and inpatient care.
Highlighting the significance of the collaboration, Andrea Darby, Vice President of Information Technology Strategy & Architecture at OhioHealth, said, “After a thoughtful evaluation, Abridge stood out not only for its exceptional note quality and electronic health record integration, but for the strength of our working relationship.”
“The team’s responsiveness and flexibility made the decision clear. This partnership reflects our long-term vision and values: building a future where innovation truly supports care teams and the communities we serve,” she further added.
Currently, Abridge’s AI platform is used by more than 200 major U.S. health systems, is built to automate clinical documentation at the point of care and reduce administrative tasks that contribute to clinician burnout.
