The National Health Authority (NHA) has been advancing digital health and expanding access to healthcare services through strengthened collaboration with philanthropic hospitals.
Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal, Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Authority, recently chaired a meeting with representatives of philanthropic hospitals to explore their integration into the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) ecosystem and identify avenues for collaboration to accelerate the adoption of digital health services.
During the meeting, the NHA urged philanthropic hospitals that are not yet part of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) to consider empanelment under the scheme, with the objective of expanding access to quality, cashless healthcare services for eligible beneficiaries.
Deliberations focused on key building blocks of the ABDM, including the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), the Health Facility Registry (HFR), the Healthcare Professional Registry (HPR), consent-based health information exchange, and features such as Scan and Share and Scan and Pay.
Officials highlighted how these digital tools can improve patient experience, strengthen continuity of care, enhance operational efficiency, and enable connected healthcare delivery across the country.
Officials noted that philanthropic hospitals play a critical role in widening access to quality healthcare, particularly for underserved communities.
Their participation in the ABDM ecosystem and deeper engagement with AB PM-JAY are expected to further support India’s progress toward an inclusive, digitally enabled, and patient-centric healthcare system.
