Nadda, Goyal Hold Talks with Norway’s Health Minister, Focus on MoUs, Digital Health & Research

India and Norway continue to work together under the Norway India Partnership Initiative, which has completed three phases and is currently in its fourth.

India and Norway have signalled a stronger healthcare partnership, as Norwegian Health Minister Jan Christian Vestre met with Union Health Minister J P Nadda and Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi.

Both sides discussed expanding cooperation across health systems, research, regulation, and technology.

In a post shared after the meeting, Nadda said he proposed the signing of Memorandums of Understanding to advance collaboration between the two countries in health, medicine, and drug regulation.

“Met with Jan Christian Vestre, Health Minister of Norway, in New Delhi today. I proposed signing of MoUs for furthering our collaboration in health and medicine, as well as drug regulation,” Nadda wrote.

He said the discussions included India’s priorities in digital health, human resource development, maternal and child nutrition, and collaborative research on diseases.

“Discussed India’s priorities in digital health, human resource development, maternal and child nutrition, and collaborative research on diseases. Looking forward to advancing our healthcare partnership and further deepening bilateral relations between our two countries,” he added.

Vestre’s visit to India focuses on strengthening cooperation in the health sector. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, who also met Vestre, highlighted broader collaboration across healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and technology.

“We discussed deepening cooperation across healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and tech-led innovation to deliver quality, affordable, and accessible care for our people,” Goyal posted.

India and Norway continue to work together under the Norway India Partnership Initiative, which has completed three phases and is currently in its fourth. The initiative aims to support India’s National Health Policy and Sustainable Development Goals while providing technical assistance to the Health Ministry and National Health Mission.

In October, Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava and Norway’s Ambassador to India, May-Elin Stener, chaired the annual NIPI meeting to review the Progress Report 2025 and approve work plans for 2025–26 under Phase IV. NIPI’s support extends to Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
