MUHS Collaborates with Nihilent to Explore Clinical Use of Emotion-AI in Healthcare

The platform is inspired by the ancient Indian emotional framework of Navarasa, which has long influenced Indian performing arts.
The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik, has partnered with technology firm Nihilent to assess the clinical relevance of Emoscape, an AI-based emotion detection platform.
The move is aimed at introducing emotional diagnostics into mainstream healthcare.
The collaboration will explore the application of Emoscape across various healthcare disciplines, including non-communicable diseases, pediatric and adolescent care, maternal mental health, pre-surgical counselling, and psychiatric conditions. According to MUHS, the initiative aligns with its broader commitment to advancing patient-centred and comprehensive healthcare delivery.
Emoscape uses artificial intelligence to detect nine core emotions—love, joy, compassion, anger, courage, fear, disgust, wonder, and calmness—based on subtle upper-body movements captured in 3D. The platform is inspired by the ancient Indian emotional framework of Navarasa, which has long influenced Indian performing arts.
Through this initiative, MUHS aims to integrate emotional mapping into routine clinical assessments and treatment plans. The collaboration will also prioritise patient privacy in the use of such AI tools.
Additionally, the partnership includes an academic component. MUHS students will be offered practical experience through Nihilent’s Summer Internship Program, which will provide them with exposure to AI applications in healthcare settings.
