Center Approves INR 33,081 Cr for State Health Infrastructure Under PM-ABHIM
The mission, which has a total financial outlay of INR 64,180 crore, aims to strengthen India’s primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare system.
The Center has approved INR 33,081.82 crore for states and union territories under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) to improve public health infrastructure.
The announcement was made by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The allocation covers the period from 2021–22 to 2025–26 and is part of the larger centrally sponsored scheme, PM-ABHIM, which was launched in 2021.

As per the Center, funds will be used to support five core infrastructure initiatives across states and UTs:
Construction of 17,788 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) - sub-centres currently without buildings, being developed into Health and Wellness Centers.
Setting up 11,024 Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (U-AAMs) to serve populations in urban slums and underserved areas.
Establishment of 3,382 Block Public Health Units (BPHUs).
Creation of 730 Integrated Public Health Labs (IPHLs).
Development of 602 critical care hospital blocks in districts with populations exceeding 500,000.
Out of the total approved funds, INR 33,081.82 crore has been earmarked for specific infrastructure targets between FY 2021–22 and 2025–26. This includes:
10,609 building-less Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs)
5,456 urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (U-AAMs)
2,151 block public health units
744 integrated public health labs
621 critical care hospital blocks
The Ministry said these projects have been cleared for implementation across states and UTs as part of India’s long-term health system preparedness plan.
