Global medtech company Medtronic has completed the acquisition of Scientia Vascular, a US-based developer and manufacturer of neurovascular access and delivery devices, in a transaction valued at approximately $550 million.

The acquisition adds Scientia Vascular’s advanced access technologies to Medtronic’s existing neurovascular portfolio, enhancing the company’s capabilities in the treatment of stroke and other complex neurovascular conditions.

The latest development follows Medtronic’s announcement of the acquisition deal with Scientia, made in March this year.

Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Utah, Scientia Vascular focuses on devices used in interventional neurology and neurovascular procedures.

Its product portfolio includes technologies intended to facilitate access to blood vessels in the brain and support the delivery of therapeutic devices during treatment.

The company’s access platform seeks to simplify neurovascular procedures by enabling faster, more reliable access to target treatment sites. The platform is designed to improve overall procedural efficiency for physicians.

Speaking on the latest development, Rick Randall, CEO of Scientia, said, "Joining Medtronic is an exciting next step for our team, as their Mission closely aligns with the values that have guided Scientia from the beginning. With Medtronic's global scale, we look forward to bringing this technology to more physicians and reaching more patients around the world."

As per Medtronic, the acquisition reflects its continued focus on strategic deals that bolster its leadership across core businesses while expanding its innovation pipeline in high-growth therapeutic areas.

The company develops devices for minimally invasive procedures for the treatment of stroke and other neurovascular conditions.

As per the company, the acquisition of Scientia will complement its existing neurovascular product suite, including microcatheters and guidewire-based technologies designed to help physicians navigate complex vascular anatomy.

Commenting on the latest acquisition, Linnea Burman, senior VP and president of Medtronic’s Neurovascular business, said, “The addition of Scientia’s access technologies strengthens our ability to simplify complex neurovascular procedures and support physicians with more seamless solutions. By bringing together highly complementary technologies, we are building a more integrated platform that will help advance the future of neurovascular care and enable physicians to treat more patients with greater efficiency and confidence.”
