Medprime Technologies Launches CILIKA AI to Streamline Pathology Workflow

The AI tool automates reticulocyte-counting for the identification of immature red blood cells from digital images of blood samples

Healthtech startup Medprime Technologies has launched CILIKA AI, an AI-powered modular software ecosystem designed to streamline and automate workflows in pathology labs.

The platform debuts with its first specialized module, CILIKA AI Retic, which focuses on automating the reticulocyte-counting for the identification of immature red blood cells from digital images of blood samples.

It is designed to support clinicians by highlighting and displaying the count of candidate cells on digital images of blood samples while enabling laboratory professionals to retain the final diagnostic clinical decision-making and reduce manual workload.

The reticulocyte count method is used as a vital indicator of bone marrow activity, essential for monitoring anaemia, oncology recovery, and treatment responses.

Traditionally, this process is performed manually under a microscope, requiring pathologists to examine multiple fields of view and count immature red blood cells. This process is often time-consuming, subjective, and prone to inter-observer variability.

Furthermore, the repetitive nature of manual counting causes significant visual and mental fatigue, which increases the risk of human error and overlooked cells, potentially impacting clinical decisions.

The AI model aims to address these challenges by automatically flagging candidate cells on digital images and generating counts.

The solution leverages AI for the detection of immature red blood cells using supravital staining, analyzes multiple fields of view (FOVs), and generates comprehensive reports within minutes.

This approach is expected to improve diagnostic accuracy and precision while significantly reducing turnaround times and supporting clinical decision-making.

In addition, it enables small and mid-sized laboratories to perform advanced haematological analyses without requiring an expensive, dedicated automated analyser.

Founded in 2014, Medprime Technologies is incubated at the Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, IIT Bombay, and is focused on building digital microscopy solutions as part of a broader push to digitize pathology workflows and support remote diagnostics.

Commenting on the new initiative, Samrat Singh, CEO and Co-Founder, Medprime Technologies, said, “At Medprime, our roadmap has always been drawn by the experts who use our tools every day. When our customers requested more than just visualization, we listened. CILIKA AI Retic is just the foundation of an evolving ecosystem. We are actively developing additional diagnostic layers, allowing laboratories to scale their capabilities seamlessly as their needs evolve.”
