In a significant move, Max Healthcare Institute (MHIL), a prominent player in India's private healthcare sector, has unveiled plans to invest INR 2500 Cr to set up a 500-bed hospital at Shaheed Path, Lucknow.

This significant investment aims to elevate the standard of healthcare services in the city and surrounding regions. Alongside this development, the company has also announced the renaming of Sahara Hospital to Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow.

Commenting on the investment plans, Abhay Soi, chairman and MD, Max Healthcare, said, "We are excited about our entry into Lucknow with the acquisition of Sahara Hospital. Through our investments, we aim to contribute to the development of Uttar Pradesh's healthcare infrastructure and provide employment opportunities for over 10,000 people in the state."

Max Healthcare Fortifying its Foothold in UP

Max Healthcare in December 2023 acquired Sahara Hospital, a 550-bed facility in Lucknow's heart. This acquisition, valued at INR 940 Cr, signifies the company's strategic move to expand its footprint in Uttar Pradesh.

With a current operational capacity of 285 beds, the hospital, situated on a sprawling 27-acre land parcel in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, serves as a vital healthcare institution in the region.

Max Healthcare's investment plan includes the establishment of a new 500-bed hospital on a 5.6-acre land parcel at Shaheed Path, Lucknow.

Additionally, the company aims to augment the capacity of Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow, by investing in cutting-edge medical technology.

This initiative will facilitate the introduction of advanced medical services such as robotics, radiation therapy in oncology, and various transplant procedures, including liver, kidney, bone marrow, heart, and lung transplants.

With the completion of the acquisition, Max Healthcare emerged as the largest private healthcare network in Uttar Pradesh, boasting over 2000 beds and catering to approximately 1.5 million people.

The company is committed to offering high-end tertiary and quaternary care services to patients in Lucknow and neighboring areas. Moreover, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow, is poised to become a key referral center for patients from Eastern and Central Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Max Healthcare's strategic initiatives extend beyond domestic borders. With direct flight connectivity to several countries, the company aims to attract medical value travel patients from neighboring countries and the Middle East to Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow.

Max’s Other Recent Acquisition

Recently, Max Healthcare Institute acquired Alexis Multi-Speciality Hospital (Alexis), Nagpur, for a deal worth INR 412 Cr.

The acquisition marked a strategic move by Max Healthcare to bolster its presence in Tier-II cities with robust healthcare infrastructure and a wealth of clinical talent.

In a similar development, Max Healthcare collaborated with Intuitive, a leader in surgical robotics, to launch an Observation Centre for Robotic-Assisted Surgery. Located at the Max Super Specialty Hospital in Saket, New Delhi, the center is designed to provide healthcare professionals with comprehensive learning experiences in multi-disciplinary robotic-assisted surgery programs.

The TPO Centre aims to address critical aspects of fostering a successful robotic surgery program, including clinical technology training, financial viability, establishing a robotic steering committee, and formulating sustainable investment pathways.

Founded in 2001, Max Healthcare Institute Limited (MHIL) is one of India's largest hospital chains. With a network of 17 healthcare facilities concentrated primarily in North India, MHIL offers state-of-the-art tertiary and quaternary care hospitals, secondary care hospitals, and daycare centers.

In addition to its core hospital business, MHIL operates two strategic business units - Max@Home and Max Lab - providing health and wellness services at home and diagnostic services to patients outside its network.
