Maharashtra CM Highlights Healthtech & Medicity as Key Pillars of India-US Collaboration
He outlined new therapies, medical devices, AI in diagnosis and treatment, digital health, and advanced healthcare infrastructure as key areas of opportunity.
Maharashtra is emerging as the central anchor for the next phase of the India-US partnership, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighting AI, digital infrastructure, and healthcare technology as key areas of collaboration.
Addressing a recent gathering focused on Redefining the India-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Maharashtra CM Fadnavis said, “Maharashtra is the gateway for connecting India with the world in investment, technology and economic development.”
Maharashtra is creating a comprehensive ecosystem to meet future requirements in technology, infrastructure and economic development, he stated.
The CM met with the U.S. Ambassador to India, H.E. Sergio Gor, for discussions on strengthening India-US ties and exploring opportunities for greater collaboration in investment, research, manufacturing and innovation.
During the meeting, Fadnavis said, “With a $660 billion economy, a skilled talent pool, diversified industries and growing capabilities across technology, manufacturing, healthcare and digital infrastructure, Maharashtra plays an important role in strengthening India-US economic ties and creating new avenues for investment, innovation and growth.”
Highlighting emerging technologies, the Chief Minister stated that AI and rapid technological changes are transforming India-US economic cooperation.
He further called for potential collaboration in developing global capability centres, data centres and resilient global supply chains.
“For India, this partnership means greater investment, innovation and new opportunities. AI, robotics, advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, semiconductors, healthcare technology and research will shape the jobs of tomorrow and open new pathways for India’s youth,” the CM said.
Healthcare was another major area of potential cooperation.
Fadnavis said India had developed strong capabilities in delivering healthcare at scale, while the US had considerable strengths in innovation.
He outlined new therapies, medical devices, AI in diagnosis and treatment, digital health, and advanced healthcare infrastructure as key areas of opportunity.
Combining these capabilities could create significant opportunities in healthcare; Maharashtra can help connect these two.
CM Fadnavis highlighted Maharashtra’s 165-acre Medicity project in Navi Mumbai, located near the state’s new Mumbai airport, along with the expansion of digital infrastructure in Mumbai.
The project is being developed as an integrated destination for healthcare, MedTech, and research.
“We are developing 165 acres Medicity next to our new Mumbai airport. And delighted to inform you that the world’s foremost cardiac health facility, Cleveland Clinic, has recently signed up with us to become the anchor hospital at our base. Medicity is envisioned to be the most advanced place for healthcare, medtech and research,” he said,
The Chief Minister also highlighted Maharashtra’s digital infrastructure capabilities, noting that the state accounts for around 65% of India’s digital infrastructure.
This is expected to further strengthen Maharashtra’s position as a destination for technology and AI-driven companies, he noted.
Further, underlining the broader potential of India-US cooperation, Sergio Gor, US Ambassador to India, said, “Simply put, when the US and India work together, we integrate value chains, accelerate breakthroughs in critical technologies, and strengthen supply chain resilience.”
Gor also highlighted that the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors remain important components of this relationship between the two countries, particularly in pharma, where India supplies 40 per cent of US generic pharma.
