The discussions come as Maharashtra continues to position itself as a preferred destination for technology investments, with a focus on expanding digital infrastructure, strengthening healthcare capacity, and advancing AI adoption across industries and government services.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met Amazon CEO Andy Jassy on Wednesday, inviting the technology company to invest in data centers, healthcare infrastructure, and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven skill development as the state accelerates its digital and economic growth agenda.

During the meeting, Fadnavis highlighted Maharashtra's position as India's data center hub and said the state has created a strong ecosystem to support the expansion of digital infrastructure.

"Maharashtra is the data center capital of the country. We are creating a strong ecosystem for the expansion and development of data centers. Besides this, there are significant opportunities in healthcare, technology infrastructure, and AI-based skill development. Amazon should invest in the state," the chief minister said, according to a government statement.

Fadnavis said Maharashtra is targeting a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030, up from its current estimated size of USD 660 billion, adding that the state has already achieved more than half of its economic growth target.

The chief minister also outlined the state's increasing use of AI to improve public service delivery. He said Maharashtra is building AI-enabled systems across sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure, and education to enhance governance and citizen services.

Highlighting the changing nature of employment due to AI, Fadnavis said technology-focused skill development has become a priority. He proposed collaboration with Amazon to develop AI-driven training programs that prepare the workforce for emerging digital roles.

The state is also looking to strengthen AI capabilities among its large network of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). According to Fadnavis, Maharashtra is developing the necessary ecosystem to support AI-based skilling initiatives aimed at improving productivity and competitiveness within the sector.
