Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital has announced the installation of the Toumai Robotic Surgery System, the first of its kind in India.
The hospital stated that the advanced platform would enhance precision, safety, and outcomes across multiple specialties, thereby expanding its existing robotic surgery program.
The Toumai Endoscopic Multi-Port Surgical System, globally recognized with the Red Dot Award and Super AI Leader Award, comes with 3D HD visualization, tremor-filtered wrist instruments, and adaptable multi-arm technology. It enables minimally invasive procedures with reduced blood loss, faster recovery, shorter hospital stays, and minimal scarring.
The system also supports telesurgery with real-time remote operation across distances up to 5,000 km.
Tina Anil Ambani, chairperson of the hospital, said, “Kokilaben Hospital has consistently endeavoured to bring cutting-edge technology to the country. The acquisition of India’s first Medbot Toumai System is another milestone in our robotic surgery programme. The fusion of robotic technology and human expertise in healthcare creates a powerful partnership, yielding incredible breakthroughs.”
Expanded robotic capabilities
According to the hospital, Toumai will be deployed across various specialties, including urology, oncology, gynecology, and gastrointestinal surgery. Key benefits highlighted include AI-assisted visualization and decision support, seamless telesurgery, and optimized performance in complex oncologic procedures.
Dr Santosh Shetty, CEO and executive director, stated, “Kokilaben Hospital has always believed in shaping the future of healthcare in India by investing in the most advanced technologies. The addition of Toumai is not just about expanding our robotic portfolio; it marks our leadership as the country’s foremost centre for advanced, technology-driven healthcare. We are proud to set this new national benchmark while ensuring that patients across India have access to world-class outcomes delivered with safety, precision, and compassion.”
Kokilaben Hospital has performed more than 6,650 robotic surgeries over the last decade, including 3,945+ uro-oncology cases, using the da Vinci systems. The introduction of Toumai adds to this experience, further integrating robotics into cancer care, organ transplants, and multidisciplinary programmes.
