Kaiser Permanente, Renown Health Launch Joint Venture in Northern Nevada
The joint venture will operate under the Kaiser Permanente Nevada banner and will focus on expanding value-based care through a combination of existing and new outpatient facilities, alongside an expanded health insurance offering.
Kaiser Permanente and Renown Health have completed a previously announced agreement to form a joint insurance and outpatient care venture in northern Nevada, marking Kaiser’s entry into the regional healthcare market. The nonprofits confirmed the close of the transaction on Tuesday, with financial terms undisclosed.
The joint venture will operate under the Kaiser Permanente Nevada banner and will focus on expanding value-based care through a combination of existing and new outpatient facilities, alongside an expanded health insurance offering. As part of the arrangement, Renown Health’s existing nonprofit insurance arm, Hometown Health, and a primary care medical office will come under joint ownership.
The partners plan to open two additional outpatient facilities in 2026, followed by retail pharmacy locations in 2027. The expanded network is intended to support outpatient, primary, and multispecialty care delivery across northern Nevada.
The deal was first announced in September 2025 and received the necessary approvals to close in early 2026. Kaiser Permanente is acquiring a majority interest in the health plan and will begin enrolling employers and residents in northern Nevada during the 2026 open enrollment period. New health plan options are currently in development and are expected to be announced ahead of the fall enrollment window.
According to the organizations, there will be no immediate changes to coverage, care teams, benefits, or points of contact for current members of Hometown Health or Kaiser Permanente. Kaiser members in the region will gain access to medical services delivered by Renown Health, which operates a broad integrated care network in the area.
The announcement also included the appointment of a new regional leadership team. Trish Rodriguez, formerly a senior vice president with Kaiser Permanente Northern California, has been named regional president. Mark Roberts, M.D., previously assistant physician-in-chief at Kaiser Permanente Roseville, will serve as executive medical director. Bethany Sexton, formerly chief executive officer of Hometown Health, has been appointed health plan leader.
Renown Health, based in Reno, operates two acute care hospitals, a children’s hospital, a trauma center, and a medical group, with services extending into California. The system employs more than 8,000 people and reported approximately $2 billion in total revenue in fiscal year 2024. Kaiser Permanente, headquartered in Oakland, California, operates 40 hospitals and more than 600 medical offices, serving 12.6 million members across eight states and the District of Columbia.
