In a significant development for medical education and research, IRCAD India, a centre dedicated to minimally invasive surgery training and research, has launched its centre in Indore. This has been done in partnership with Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS), aiming to establish a global hub for advanced medical training.

This collaboration established the first Indian centre exclusively dedicated to training and research in minimally invasive surgery.

Equipped with the latest technology comprising 42 stations integrating robotics, 3D, and 4K capabilities, the Indore-based centre will be a premier training facility offering surgeons worldwide access to comprehensive training in advanced surgical techniques. The facility aims to serve as a global hub, providing advanced training in the latest surgical techniques to surgeons worldwide.

Commenting on the same, Dr Bhandari, president of IRCAD India, said, "This training centre not only aims to nurture the next generation of surgeons but also aligns with the Prime Minister’s Make in India initiative. Surgical companies and diagnostic instrument manufacturers can utilise the lab for research and development, making these technologies more accessible and affordable."

The joint venture was officially announced during a signing ceremony attended by Prof Jacques Marescaux, the president of IRCAD Global. He commended the exceptional infrastructure and facilities at SAIMS, expressing confidence in IRCAD India's potential to provide world-class surgical training.

Prof Marescaux further said, "This institute provides training facilities of an exceptional level. We established IRCAD-India here to provide the world’s best surgical training."

Under the leadership of Dr Mohit Bhandari, the IRCAD India board, featuring eminent individuals such as Dr Vinod Bhandari and Dr Mahak Bhandari,  the institute is set to commence operations in 2024.

In other developments, in a collaborative effort, AIIMS New Delhi and IIT Delhi have introduced an advanced deep-learning system focused on enhancing neurosurgery training. The initiative was revealed during the 16th IITD Open House program.

Meanwhile, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Mumbai (CPS Mumbai) unveiled Mumbai's first Simulation Lab, which aims to advance medical education by providing hands-on training to aspiring healthcare professionals.
