India Poised To Emerge As World’s Healthcare Capital: Dr Prathap Reddy

He pointed to India’s growing global presence in medicine, citing the contribution of Indian-origin doctors abroad.

India is positioned to become the world’s healthcare capital, said Dr Prathap C Reddy, Founder-Chairman of Apollo Hospitals and Chancellor of Apollo University, while addressing students and faculty at Apollo Knowledge City in Chittoor on Sunday.

He pointed to India’s growing global presence in medicine, citing the contribution of Indian-origin doctors abroad.

“Nearly 10 per cent of doctors in the US and up to 30 percent in the UK are of Indian origin. This reflects the talent and commitment of our medical professionals,” Dr Reddy stated.

India’s role in advancing healthcare

Dr Reddy said India’s youth, with the right training and guidance, could strengthen the country’s position as a global hub for healthcare. He recalled Apollo’s role in cardiology, including complex surgeries and heart transplants, which reduced the need for patients to travel overseas for treatment.

He also highlighted the adoption of advanced technologies in India, including proton therapy for cancer treatment, now available in Delhi and Hyderabad.

Integration of technology and medical education

Emphasizing the importance of medical education aligned with innovation, Dr Reddy remarked, “Healthcare is not just about medicines but also technology, preventive care, and emergency services.” He said Apollo University has integrated engineering education with medical sciences to promote healthcare innovations.

The event was attended by Apollo University Vice Chancellor Dr H Vinod Bhat, Registrar Prof M Potharaju, AIMSR Dean Dr Alfred J Augustine, trust members, faculty, and students.
