India & Kenya In Talks to Boost Pharma, Medtech & Digital Health Transformation

As a trusted and long-standing partner of Kenya in the health and pharmaceutical sectors, India said the meeting focused on expanding collaboration in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and emerging technologies.

Indian High Commissioner to Kenya, Adarsh Swaika, has recently met senior Kenyan ministers to assess ongoing engagements and explore new avenues of cooperation that would promote affordable healthcare and further digital transformation.

The engagement brought to light mutual interest in the development of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, capacity building, digital innovation, and technology-led development.

As per reports, India and Kenya have held a series of high-level meetings this week in a bid to reinforce cooperation across the healthcare and technology sectors.

Moreover, the discussions on healthcare took place when the envoy called on Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary of Health, Aden Duale.

According to the Indian High Commissioner, the meeting focused on expanding collaboration in pharmaceuticals, pharma manufacturing, medical devices, equipment, and human-resource development.

This is as India maintains its position as a “trusted and long-standing partner” of Kenya in the health and pharmaceutical sectors.

The Mission also reiterated that thousands of Kenyans travel to India each year on medical tourism, attracted by advanced facilities, established expertise, and comparatively low costs for treatment.

Additionally, the Indian envoy called on Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, William Kabogo, to discuss follow-up actions for early implementation of ongoing projects and proposals to deepen India-Kenya cooperation in the ICT sector, emerging technologies, digital skilling, and innovation.

It also discussed deeper collaboration between startups and technology ecosystems in both countries.

Kabogo said the meeting affirmed the need to widen technology partnerships towards a faster pace of digital transformation for Kenya, pointing to the modernization of the national broadcaster KBC and the development of robust ICT infrastructure.
