The Union Minister further encouraged the scientific community to drive the development of futuristic technologies, including AI-driven precision healthcare and advanced genomics.

Union Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel has said India has rapidly risen as a major force in global health research, becoming increasingly self-reliant in MedTech and biomedical innovation.

She made the remarks during a recent event. She said India’s health research ecosystem has been significantly strengthened over the past decade under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

She noted that initiatives such as MedTech Mitra and innovations like Rotavac and the COVID-19 vaccines “stand as a testament to India’s growing prominence in the global health research landscape”.

She highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring scientific progress benefits people at every level. “India is becoming increasingly self-reliant in the MedTech and biomedical innovation sectors. The country is not only innovating but also demonstrating the capacity to deliver solutions at scale,” she said.

Patel added that evidence-based policymaking continues to guide the government’s approach. She stressed that clinical guidelines and quality standards must be accessible to all healthcare professionals to support affordable, equitable healthcare.

Pointing to India’s intramural, extramural, and clinical research achievements, Patel said the country’s health system is at a defining moment. She encouraged the scientific community to drive the development of futuristic technologies, including AI-driven precision healthcare and advanced genomics.

Congratulating researchers and awardees, she said, “India should not only contribute to global science but lead it.”

In his address, NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr V K Paul said healthy life expectancy in India stands at 60 years. He said the Viksit Bharat vision for ICMR aims to raise this above 75 years through innovative interventions, solutions and advanced technologies. Dr Paul urged the Department of Health Research to prioritise areas such as non-communicable diseases, hypertension and trauma care.
