The new e-portal, developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), will replace the software introduced in 2005.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has announced the rollout of a revamped Health Management Information System (HMIS) for the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), scheduled to go live on April 28, 2025. Developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), the new e-portal will replace the existing software introduced in 2005.

According to the Health Ministry, the overhaul was necessitated due to the older system’s limitations in meeting current IT standards and cybersecurity protocols. “The existing CGHS software, which has been used since 2005, lacks compatibility with modern IT standards, cybersecurity frameworks, and user expectations. The revamped HMIS will enable faster, more transparent, and user-friendly access to CGHS services,” the ministry stated.

CGHS Services to Remain Closed for One Day

To facilitate data migration and system validation, all CGHS-related services, including those at Wellness Centres, will remain closed on April 26, 2025 (Saturday).

“To complete data migration, switch-over activities, and final validation, all CGHS services, including those at Wellness Centres, shall remain closed for one day on 26th April 2025 (Saturday),” the ministry announced.

The ministry has further advised that once the new portal is operational, all CGHS-related transactions—including registration, grievance redressal, information retrieval, and contributions—must be conducted via the new website only. Manual payments will no longer be accepted.

New Features: PAN-Based ID and Real-Time Tracking

The updated platform introduces several new functionalities to enhance efficiency and user convenience. These include PAN-based beneficiary identification, real-time service request tracking, automated payment verification, and fully online application workflows.

As part of the digital upgrade, the CGHS mobile applications for Android and iOS platforms have also been re-launched with an improved interface and integrated services.

CGHS, operational since 1954, provides a broad range of medical facilities to central government employees, pensioners, and their dependents. Services include outpatient care, specialist consultations, inpatient treatment, and diagnostic tests.
