Preventive healthcare adoption has also increased, with the company reporting a 2.5-times rise in customers using the step-tracking feature on its mobile app to avail renewal premium discounts.

Health insurance demand in India has risen by more than 27% between underwriting years 2023–2024 and 2024–2025, reflecting a growing shift toward proactive coverage and wellness-led choices, according to Care Health Insurance’s 2025 Annual Trends Report.

The report highlights increasing awareness around comprehensive health cover, driven by rising medical costs and changing consumer behaviour.

Care Health Insurance said the number of insured members has grown sharply, indicating that more Indians are actively opting for health insurance rather than purchasing it reactively.

Sharing insights from the report, Manish Dodeja, Chief Operating Officer, Care Health Insurance, said, "It is evident from our annual trends report that Indian Health Insurance consumers are proactively seeking comprehensive health coverage and are becoming more tech-savvy. Consumers are prioritising preventive healthcare and lifestyle care. Through these behavioural shifts, we are guided to ensure that Care Health Insurance offers intuitive solutions. We're committed to investing in technology to make Health Insurance easier to understand, more accessible and adaptable to our customers' evolving needs."

The report also points to a steady rise in the average sum insured across all age groups. The average sum insured for the 0–17 age group increased by over 7% from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, indicating a trend among families to secure higher coverage for children.

First-time buyers aged 18–35 accounted for more than 30% of total policyholders in 2025–2026, while the share of senior citizens aged 60 and above rose to nearly 14% during the same period.

The claims data analysed in the report shows a high volume of settlements related to Dengue, Malaria, and Common Flu, along with lifestyle-related conditions such as respiratory infections, heart-related ailments, cancer, and arthritis. This reflects continued demand for healthcare linked to lifestyle diseases and ageing-related conditions.

Digital engagement has emerged as a major trend, with website visits showing high purchase intent in the first half of the current financial year more than doubling over the past three years. Preventive healthcare adoption has also increased, with the company reporting a 2.5-times rise in customers using the step-tracking feature on its mobile app to avail renewal premium discounts.

The report further notes a shift toward online policy management, with nearly a 10% increase in customers paying renewal premiums digitally. App-based services have gained traction, with close to 30% of customers filing claims through the Care Health customer app and over 15% renewing policies via the app over the last year.
