HCG Cancer Centre Cuttack Unveils Odisha’s First SSI Mantra Robotic Surgical System for Cancer Care

The initiative is aimed at supporting minimally invasive cancer care by combining advanced robotic surgical technology with HCG’s clinical expertise.

HCG Cancer Centre, Cuttack, has unveiled the SSI Mantra Robotic Surgical System, an indigenously developed robotic-assisted surgical platform for technology-driven cancer care in Odisha.

The deployment makes the hospital the first comprehensive cancer hospital in Odisha to offer robotic-assisted oncology surgery.

The initiative is aimed at supporting minimally invasive cancer care by combining advanced robotic surgical technology with HCG’s clinical expertise.

Commenting on the latest development, Dr. Rupali Basu, Regional Business Head – East & AP, HCG Cancer Hospitals, said, “The introduction of SSI Mantra at HCG Cancer Centre, Cuttack, is an important step in our efforts to make advanced cancer care more accessible to patients in Odisha. Robotic surgery brings another level of precision and control to complex procedures, while also giving our surgical teams the technology to offer minimally invasive treatment to appropriately selected patients.”

Key Highlights

The surgical platform is designed to support surgeons in performing complex, minimally invasive cancer surgeries with enhanced precision, dexterity, and visualization.

In its initial phase, the platform will support selected robotic-assisted cancer surgeries across key specialties, including uro-oncology, colorectal and gastrointestinal oncology, and gynecologic oncology, along with other appropriately identified procedures.

The robotic-assisted surgery approach combines a surgeon’s expertise with advanced computer-assisted technology to enable improved precision, enhanced 3D visualization, and improved instrument control during complex procedures.

The technology seeks to augment surgical capabilities by enhancing precision, visualization, and instrument control during minimally invasive surgery.

The hospital further emphasized that the decision to proceed with robotic surgery will continue to be made on a case-by-case basis, guided by each patient’s individual cancer type, stage, and overall clinical condition.

The minimally invasive approach is expected to reduce surgical trauma, lower blood loss, and postoperative pain while potentially supporting faster recovery and shortening hospital stay, enabling patients to return to their daily lives sooner.

According to the hospital, the initiative is intended to expand access to advanced surgical treatment within Odisha and reduce the need for some patients to travel outside the state for specialised procedures.
