GIMS Greater Noida Rolls Out QR-Based Bill Payments under ABDM

The service is part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), which seeks to integrate medical records, prescriptions, and payments onto a single digital platform.

Patients at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, will no longer have to wait in long queues for bill payments, as the hospital has introduced a “scan and pay” facility that enables visitors to make digital payments through a QR code linked to their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA).

The service is part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), which seeks to integrate medical records, prescriptions, and payments onto a single digital platform.

According to officials, GIMS has now become the first state-run medical institute in the country, apart from AIIMS facilities, to adopt the full suite of ABDM modules. These include e-prescriptions, scan and share, health record linkage, and the newly launched digital payments system.

The initiative has been implemented in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), which manages the hospital’s e-Sushrut software. QR codes have been placed at registration counters, OPD waiting areas, diagnostic centres, and pharmacies to facilitate easy payments.

“By adopting scan and pay, we are reducing wait times and making the patient journey smoother. More importantly, all modules of ABDM are now live at GIMS, which is a milestone for any state medical institute,” said GIMS Greater Noida director Dr Rakesh Gupta.

Hospital administrators acknowledged that some patients may not be familiar with digital apps but added that staff and volunteers would be available to help visitors during the transition period.

Residents have also welcomed the change. “Paying bills sometimes took longer than seeing the doctor. If this new system works smoothly, it will save us a lot of time and hassle,” said Ashok Kumar, a Greater Noida resident.
