The company has recently inaugurated its new software Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Noida, marking a significant step in its strategy to enhance its presence in the rapidly evolving healthcare market.
FUJIFILM SonoSite, a leading provider of point-of-care ultrasound solutions, has expanded its operations in India to accelerate the development of advanced healthcare technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
The company has recently inaugurated its new software Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Noida, marking a significant step in its strategy to enhance its presence in the rapidly evolving healthcare market.
Global CEO Richard Fabian highlighted India’s growing role in the company’s global strategy, emphasizing the country's strong technological and healthcare capabilities. “We have our headquarters in Bothell with a software team, but the expansion and growth are happening right here in Noida with this remarkable team,” Fabian stated.
“This is where we’ll focus on developing great workflow solutions and advanced AI applications to address our customers’ most complex needs.”
The decision to set up the CoE in Noida stems from India’s strong software engineering talent, skilled healthcare professionals, and an evolving healthcare system that offers opportunities to address global challenges.
The CoE will be central to FUJIFILM SonoSite’s innovation in medical technology, and the company plans to expand its workforce in India over the coming years.
Fabian also noted that the CoE currently employs 40 people, with plans to grow. “We are committed to growing the CoE and investing in the Indian market, which has shown strong potential for our business,” he added.
In addition to the CoE's technological innovation, FUJIFILM SonoSite is exploring local manufacturing in India. Currently, the company imports its ultrasound devices from the United States, but the potential for manufacturing in India could help serve emerging markets globally.
Fabian explained, “The ‘Make in India’ initiative could help us expand not only within India but also to other emerging markets where our products may be a good fit.”
While manufacturing for the U.S. market remains based in the US, the Indian facility could be a viable option for producing value products for other regions.
The new CoE in Noida will collaborate with FUJIFILM SonoSite’s R&D hub in Seattle, combining global expertise to improve ultrasound systems' performance. Richard Kelly, Global VP of R&D, emphasized that this collaboration would drive innovation by integrating cutting-edge technologies with real-world clinical applications.
“Our goal is to drive medical innovation through close partnerships with clinicians, aiming to transform healthcare solutions,” Kelly stated.
