Former AMA President Dr. Jesse Ehrenfeld Joins Aidoc as Chief Medical Officer

The appointment comes as health systems increasingly move toward enterprise-wide adoption of clinical artificial intelligence to support care delivery and clinical workflows.

Former American Medical Association (AMA) President Dr. Jesse M. Ehrenfeld has joined clinical AI company Aidoc as its Chief Medical Officer, the company announced on Tuesday.

The appointment comes as health systems increasingly move toward enterprise-wide adoption of clinical artificial intelligence to support care delivery and clinical workflows.

Dr. Ehrenfeld most recently concluded his term as President of the AMA, where he was a prominent national voice on physician well-being, patient safety, and responsible technology use in healthcare. His transition to Aidoc places a former national medical leader into an executive role at a company operating at scale within hospital systems.

Aidoc said Dr. Ehrenfeld will focus on supporting health systems as they shift from deploying isolated AI tools to implementing comprehensive, enterprise clinical AI strategies. In this role, he will work with clinical leaders to guide the safe and reliable use of AI across care pathways, with an emphasis on clinical rigor and operational integration.

Speaking on the appointment, Dr. Ehrenfeld said his work at the AMA centered on strengthening physician support systems and building trust in healthcare technology. He pointed to clinical AI’s growing presence in real-world care environments as a key factor in his decision to join the company. He also highlighted radiology’s role as an early driver of clinical AI adoption, noting its impact on patient flow and downstream clinical decision-making.

Aidoc’s AI Operating System, aiOS, functions as a clinical AI layer between medical imaging systems and electronic medical records, enabling workflow-based actions across multiple service lines. The company reports deployments in more than 1,600 hospitals worldwide and says its platform has analyzed over 100 million patient cases to date.

The company recently filed a Breakthrough Device submission with the US Food and Drug Administration for a comprehensive abdomen AI solution built on its Clinical AI Reasoning Engine, CARE™. Aidoc said this filing reflects its focus on deploying large-scale clinical AI models within regulated healthcare environments.

Aidoc Chief Executive Officer Elad Walach said Dr. Ehrenfeld’s background in clinical practice, informatics, and national medical leadership would inform the company’s approach as AI adoption expands across health systems.

Dr. Ehrenfeld is a board-certified anesthesiologist and clinical informaticist. His previous roles include service as a Commander in the US Navy, Special Advisor to the US Surgeon General, and co-lead of the US Navy Surgeon General’s Digital Medicine Taskforce. He has authored more than 275 peer-reviewed publications and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Medical Systems.

Dr. Ehrenfeld is scheduled to speak in his new role at CES 2026 in Las Vegas on January 7, participating in a session focused on agentic AI in healthcare.
