Fabric Acquires UCM Digital Health to Expand Payer and Employer Reach
The acquisition will integrate Fabric’s AI-enabled virtual care technology and nationwide clinical network with UCM’s expertise in serving payers and employers.
Fabric, a healthcare technology and care enablement company, has acquired UCM Digital Health, marking its fifth acquisition in under three years. The deal brings 400 new payer and employer customers and covers an additional 1 million lives across all 50 states.
The acquisition will integrate Fabric’s AI-enabled virtual care technology and nationwide clinical network with UCM’s expertise in serving payers and employers.
"For Fabric, it’s about making healthcare more accessible," said Aniq Rahman, CEO and Founder of Fabric. "We’ve already made meaningful progress in the payer and employer markets, and this acquisition allows us to deepen that impact. By bringing more payers and employers onto our platform, we’re creating a connected experience that streamlines workflows, reduces friction and costs, and ultimately drives better outcomes for members and our partners."
Since changing its name from Florence to Fabric in early 2024, the company has expanded its footprint to 75 health systems, 30,000 employers, and over 100 million lives. Fabric’s care access and experience platform, paired with its provider network, is designed to streamline virtual-first care, expand access, improve efficiency, and reduce both medical and administrative costs.
Fabric has followed a strategic build-and-buy approach to broaden its capabilities. Previous acquisitions include Zipnosis from Bright Health in April 2023, conversational AI assistant Gyant in January 2024, Walmart’s MeMD telehealth business in June 2024, and TeamHealth VirtualCare in September 2024, collectively adding millions of covered lives and expanding virtual care services nationwide.
Fabric provides a telemedicine platform for health systems and a suite of tools ranging from patient intake and self-scheduling to provider documentation. Its conversational AI can automate intake, symptom checking, and patient triage to direct individuals to the most appropriate care setting, including virtual, in-person primary care, urgent care, or emergency visits.
Through its nationwide provider network, patients can receive treatment plans for common medical conditions within five minutes or access behavioral health providers within three days. Fabric reports that asynchronous visits reduce provider work time to 89 seconds while saving payers up to $17 per member per month, maintaining clinical outcomes comparable to face-to-face care.
Healthcare customers of Fabric include SF HealthCare, MUSC Health, Highmark, and Intermountain Health. The acquisition of UCM Digital Health is expected to further enhance Fabric’s presence in the payer and employer markets.
