The acquisition brings Aster's expertise in AI agents and healthcare automation to Elation Health's platform, accelerating the company's efforts to develop what it describes as an agentic operating system for primary care.
Elation Health has acquired Aster, an AI-native electronic health record (EHR) company focused on women's health, as it seeks to expand autonomous AI capabilities for primary care practices.
The acquisition brings Aster's expertise in AI agents and healthcare automation to Elation Health's platform, accelerating the company's efforts to develop what it describes as an agentic operating system for primary care. Unlike traditional AI assistants, agentic systems are designed to independently complete tasks on behalf of clinicians and care teams.
The deal is Elation Health's second acquisition following its purchase of Lightning MD in 2023.
As part of the acquisition, Aster co-founders Fifi Kara and Dr. Lailah Kara-Newton, along with Chief Technology Officer Nacho Vazquez, will join Elation Health. The team previously developed Atlas, a voice-based AI agent that automates front-office functions for healthcare organizations.
Founded in 2023, Aster raised $2.8 million in funding from investors including Zeal Capital Partners, Cornerstone Ventures, and Octopus Ventures.
Kyna Fong, co-founder and CEO of Elation Health, said the companies shared a common vision around supporting independent medical practices and improving clinician workflows. She noted that Aster's technology and team would strengthen Elation's capabilities in AI-driven healthcare operations.
Aster's leadership team brings experience across healthcare, technology, and product development. Fifi Kara is a two-time founder, Y Combinator alum, and former design leader for Meta's Health & Fitness organization. Dr. Kara-Newton, a physician trained at Barts and The London School of Medicine, has practiced medicine for more than seven years and has published research with organizations including the World Health Organization. Vazquez led the development of Aster's technology platform and AI infrastructure.
According to the companies, Aster was initially created to address gaps in women's healthcare after Dr. Kara-Newton experienced undiagnosed preeclampsia during her first pregnancy, resulting in an emergency C-section and neonatal intensive care admission for her son. The founders subsequently developed an AI-native platform aimed at supporting women's health providers.
Following the acquisition, Aster's technology and team will be integrated into Elation Health's broader primary care platform, with a focus on expanding automation and operational support for healthcare practices.
