Doctronic Acquires Summer Health to Expand Footprint into Pediatric Care
Summer Health's paediatric expertise and family-focused care model will be integrated into Doctronic's AI-powered platform
US-based AI healthtech startup Doctronic has acquired Summer Health to expand its footprint into paediatric care and strengthen its virtual healthcare offerings for children and families.
As part of the acquisition, Summer Health's paediatric expertise and family-focused care model will be integrated into Doctronic's AI-powered platform.
The combined offering is intended to provide parents with access to paediatric guidance alongside Doctronic's virtual consultation services.
Founded in 2022, Summer Health offers on-demand, text-based paediatric care, supporting more than 100,000 paediatric encounters for tens of thousands of families.
The company specialises in connecting parents with paediatric experts through conversational, text-based care.
Speaking on the latest acquisition, Dr. Adam Oskowitz, cofounder and co-CEO of Doctronic, said, "Families don't experience healthcare in silos. They simply want trusted answers when someone they love needs care. Rather than requiring families to navigate separate systems, we're building a single, trusted front door to healthcare where families can access timely, affordable, AI-enabled care through one continuous experience."
Doctronic offers free personalized health information through its AI platform and connects users with licensed clinicians for video visits.
The company said its AI platform and nationwide network of clinicians have provided expertise during more than 30 million health encounters during the past two years.
Doctronic plans to leverage Summer Health's repository of more than 100,000 pediatric text conversations to develop pediatric-specific AI models.
According to the startup, the dataset includes examples of how parents describe symptoms, ask questions, and seek medical guidance in everyday situations.
As per reports, Summer Health Founder and CEO Ellen DaSilva will join Doctronic as senior vice president of partnerships and lead the expansion of the company's business-to-business offering.
Commenting on the latest development. Ellen DaSilva, CEO of Summer Health, said, "As parents, we're constantly making decisions with incomplete information. The first years of a child's life generate thousands of questions. We've spent years learning how parents ask them, what worries them, and what guidance actually helps. Bringing that experience into Doctronic allows us to improve care for millions more families."
The deal builds on Doctronic's recent growth initiatives. Earlier this year, the startup raised $ 40 million in a Series B funding round, stating that part of the capital would be used to expand into paediatric care and strengthen partnerships with health systems, payers and digital health organisations.
In a recent development, it also partnered with Simple HealthKit to provide AI-enabled at-home diagnostic testing and follow-up care.
