Ministry of Ayush & IndiaAI Partner to Accelerate AI-Driven Innovation in Traditional Medicine
As part of the collaboration, the Ministry of Ayush will onboard AIKosh, India's national AI dataset platform and contribute eligible anonymised health research artefacts.
The Ministry of Ayush and IndiaAI have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance AI-driven innovation across India's traditional medicine ecosystem.
The partnership has brought together the Ministry of Ayush's digital health initiatives and IndiaAI's artificial intelligence infrastructure to strengthen research, improve digital capabilities, and support the wider adoption of AI across the Ayush sector.
IndiaAI, an initiative under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), is focused on building AI infrastructure, datasets, and innovation ecosystems across the country.
The Ministry of Ayush has meanwhile been expanding the digital transformation of traditional medicine through initiatives such as Ayush Grid, which aims to digitally connect healthcare providers, research institutions, education, and citizens across Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homoeopathy.
Dr Kavita Jain, Joint Secretary and Chief Vigilance Officer, Ministry of Ayush, said, "The integration of Artificial Intelligence with Ayush will open new avenues for evidence-based research, knowledge management and innovation."
She added that the collaboration with IndiaAI will help leverage advanced AI capabilities across areas such as research, medicinal plants, drug administration and capacity building, making the Ayush ecosystem more technology-driven and future-ready.
As part of the collaboration, the Ministry of Ayush will onboard AIKosh, India's national AI dataset platform, and contribute eligible anonymised health research artefacts.
These may include datasets, metadata, AI models, toolkits, and relevant use cases, creating resources for researchers, startups, academic institutions, and innovators working on responsible AI applications for the Ayush sector.
The partnership will also provide access to GPU-based and high-performance computing infrastructure through the IndiaAI initiative at subsidised rates, subject to defined service-level agreements.
The additional computing capacity is expected to support large-scale AI research, model development, and advanced healthcare applications while reducing infrastructure barriers for innovation.
Sudeep Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer, IndiaAI Mission and Joint Secretary, MeitY, said, "The MoU between IndiaAI and the Ministry of Ayush is a significant step towards enriching AIKosh with traditional healthcare datasets and will empower researchers and practitioners of traditional medicinal sciences through AI-enabled innovation."
By combining India's traditional medical knowledge with modern AI technologies, the Ministry of Ayush and IndiaAI aim to create a stronger digital foundation for evidence-based research, healthcare innovation, and future-ready services, while encouraging wider collaboration between government, academia, startups, and the research community.
