Bio Valley, 4baseCare & Define Bio to Establish Genomics Centre of Excellence at AMTZ Vizag

The proposed centre will focus on genomics and Next Generation Sequencing while working to strengthen genomic infrastructure in the country.

A new genomics Center of Excellence named BioSphere is set to be established at Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone in Vizag following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Bio Valley, 4baseCare and Define Bio.

The partners stated that the initiative is intended to support the development of India’s genomics ecosystem.

The proposed centre will focus on genomics and Next Generation Sequencing while working to strengthen genomic infrastructure in the country.

It is designed to enable diagnostics, therapeutic decisions and personalised treatments. In addition, the facility will generate datasets representing India’s genetic diversity and integrate them with global genomic datasets.

According to the partners, the centre will aid in the development of diagnostics, risk prediction models and therapies aligned with Indian genomic variations, while adhering to scientific benchmarks and ensuring interoperability.

It will also encourage collaboration between clinicians, academic institutions, industry partners and data based start ups, and provide training support for scientists and entrepreneurs engaged in data driven research and product development.

Population scale genomic insights emerging from the centre are expected to contribute to public health policy and preventive strategies at a national level, with emphasis on accessibility, affordability and long term healthcare impact in India.

As part of the initiative, an incubation centre will be set up within CoE BioSphere to support genomics based start ups. It will offer sequencing services, access to data and mentorship for product development.

The partners stated that CoE BioSphere is envisioned as a hub for genomics driven healthcare and biotechnology developments at AMTZ.
