Ayushman Arogya Mandirs Well Equipped in 75 Districts
He also said that over 62 crore people, accounting for more than 40 per cent of India’s population, are covered under the AB PMJAY scheme, which provides health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh.
Seventy-five districts across the country now have dialysis facilities and CT scan machines available at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has said.
He made the statement while addressing the 21st annual convocation ceremony of King George’s Medical University in Lucknow.
The Union Health Minister stated that more than 1.82 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are currently operational across the country, providing comprehensive primary healthcare services. He also said that over 62 crore people, accounting for more than 40 per cent of India’s population, are covered under the Ayushman Bharat PMJAY scheme, which provides health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh.
Highlighting developments in healthcare and medical education over the past decade, Nadda noted that while India had only one AIIMS at the end of the last century, the country now has 23 AIIMS institutions, reflecting the government’s efforts to expand access to quality healthcare and medical training.
Minister Nadda added that by 2029, an additional 75,000 undergraduate and postgraduate seats will be added under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with more than 23,000 seats already added in one year.
Brajesh Pathak, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Medical Education, said, “Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been set up through NHM in population clusters of more than 5,000, tertiary facilities have been strengthened through additional ICU beds.”
The event was attended by Anandiben Patel, Governor of Uttar Pradesh; Brajesh Pathak, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Medical Education, Medical, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Uttar Pradesh; Pankaj Kumar, Minister of State for Finance, Government of India; Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Government of Uttar Pradesh; and Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India.
Prof. Sonia Nityanand, Vice-Chancellor of KGMU; Prof. Apjeet Kaur, Dean, KGMU and senior officials from the Union Government and Government of Uttar Pradesh were also present.
