Avis Hospital Raises $2.5 Mn to Expand Rural Varicose Vein Services

The hospital also aims to invest in diagnostic technologies and mobile screening camps to reach remote rural populations.

Avis Hospital, a specialised centre for varicose vein treatment, has raised $2.5 million in growth capital from NABVENTURES, the venture capital arm of NABARD.

The deal was facilitated by Equity 360, a private investment banking firm led by Sumeet Seraf.

The capital will support Avis Hospital’s expansion into more than 15 Tier 2 and 3 cities, enhancing access to varicose vein care in underserved regions.

The hospital also aims to invest in diagnostic technologies and mobile screening camps to reach remote rural populations.

Sumeet Seraf, Founder of Equity 360, said, “In rural India, varicose veins are more than a medical issue, they’re a livelihood crisis. Farmers and workers often suffer silently, unable to stand or walk without pain. In villages, it’s often called ‘haathi ki tang’ (elephant legs). This partnership is about restoring rural communities' dignity, mobility, and income.”

Specialised care for a silent rural crisis

Founded by U.S.-trained Vascular and Interventional Radiologist Dr Rajah V. Koppala, Avis Hospital was established to address chronic venous insufficiency, a condition significantly affecting rural workers.

Dr Koppala said, “Having treated thousands of patients in the U.S., I realised the greatest need was back home in India. Every time I saw a farmer limping to his field or a mother struggling to walk her child to school, I knew we had to build something different.”
