Ascension St. Thomas to Invest $537M in Middle Tennessee Expansion Projects
The projects target Davidson, Rutherford, and Montgomery counties, supporting new facilities and expanded inpatient capacity.
Ascension St. Thomas announced a $537 million investment in multiple projects across Middle Tennessee aimed at expanding healthcare access and upgrading technology.
The projects target Davidson, Rutherford, and Montgomery counties, supporting new facilities and expanded inpatient capacity.
The investments will enhance access to advanced diagnostics and treatment options while reducing travel time for patients across the region. Key modernization efforts will focus on emergency departments, inpatient units, and surgical services at hospitals in Davidson County.
At St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Rutherford County, major infrastructure improvements are planned, while Montgomery County will see $148.5 million allocated to a new hospital in Clarksville. These projects are funded through tax-exempt bonds in partnership with state and local authorities.
Ascension St. Thomas, part of the Catholic nonprofit health system Ascension, has been actively investing in Middle Tennessee to meet growing population demand. In July, it committed $10 million to upgrade the emergency department at Ascension St. Thomas Hospital West. Earlier in the year, the system received state approval to construct a rehabilitation facility and an inpatient hospital in collaboration with LifePoint Health.
Across the broader Ascension network, $780.2 million was spent on capital projects in the first quarter of its 2026 fiscal year, which ended September 30. The investments reflect a continued focus on expanding healthcare infrastructure and modernizing facilities to meet increasing patient needs.
