Army Base Hospital at Delhi Cantt Establishes Comprehensive Vestibular Lab

The newly launched lab is expected to enhance health and advance capabilities in diagnosing and treating vestibular disorders. Further, this facility is available in multiple AFMS ENT centres which will aid in multi-centric research.

Delhi’s Army Base Hospital has unveiled a comprehensive vestibular lab to offer benefits to patients with balance disorders and vertigo.

The newly launched lab is expected to enhance health and advance capabilities in diagnosing and treating vestibular disorders. Further, this facility is available in multiple AFMS ENT centres which will aid in multi-centric research.

The comprehensive vestibular lab offers a range of diagnostic features including the Dynamic Visual Acuity (DVA) test which is used to diagnose vestibular toxicity and peripheral vestibulopathy, usually caused by ototoxic drugs.

Additionally, it offers computerised stabilometry (posturography) which helps in the functional evaluation of the postural control system in its steady-state behaviour. It further measures the outcome of vestibular rehabilitation by assessing the patient’s balance control on the postural sway velocity.

The advanced laboratory was inaugurated by Lt Gen Arindam Chatterjee, DGMS (Army) and Col Comdt AMC,

On the occasion, Lt Gen Daljit Singh, DGAFMS, congratulated the base hospital team on the establishment of the lab. According to him, the lab will open newer diagnostic horizons and incorporate practices in the training of ENT surgeons.

‘’This comprehensive vestibular lab is a game-changer for those battling balance disorders and vertigo,” said Bharat Bhushan, principal spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

Located in New Delhi, the Army Base Hospital in Delhi Cantt is a military hospital. It was established by the Indian Army, The primary aim of the Army Base Hospital is to provide extensive medical assistance to the armed forces and their dependents. The hospital is equipped with advanced facilities to cater to various medical needs.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital was converted into an exclusive COVID-19 facility. Then, the Indian Army contributed 400 beds to this facility at the Base Hospital in Delhi Cantt. This initiative reflects the hospital’s commitment to adapt and respond to the evolving healthcare needs of the community it serves.

In a similar event, SRV Hospitals unveiled AI cath lab in its 5th hospital in Nashik. The AI technology will assist healthcare professionals with intelligent imaging capabilities, advancing heart healthcare delivery and diagnostic accuracy. This move aligns with the hospital's objective of offering personalised patient care by offering the latest technologies and integrated healthcare.

Days back, CPS Mumbai launched the city’s first simulation lab for medical training. The simulation lab uses lifelike manikins and a hospital-like setting to simulate real-world medical scenarios, offering practical learning opportunities.
