Apollo Hospitals Opens Asia’s First Dedicated Cancer Center for Women in New Delhi
The center is equipped with advanced technology and facilities for diagnosing and treating cancers affecting women.
Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd (AHEL) launched Apollo Athenaa, Asia’s first dedicated cancer center for women, at Defence Colony, New Delhi.
The inauguration was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Founder-Chairman of Apollo Hospitals Group, Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson of AHEL, and other dignitaries.
The center is equipped with advanced technology and facilities for diagnosing and treating cancers affecting women. Its design incorporates principles of neuroaesthetics to create a healing environment that promotes patient well-being and supports faster recovery. Every element of the facility, from the façade to interiors, has been planned to ensure patient comfort and dignity.
Apollo Athenaa integrates multiple aspects of care, including surgical treatment, reconstructive procedures, mental health support, nutrition guidance, and physiotherapy. By offering these services under one roof, the center addresses both medical and emotional needs of women facing cancer.
According to GLOBOCAN 2022 data, nearly 54% of cancers among Indian women are breast and cervical cancers, highlighting the urgent need for specialized treatment.
Additional findings from the Indian Council of Medical Research’s National Cancer Registry Program reinforce this trend, reflecting a growing health challenge for women in India.
Speaking at the event, Preetha Reddy said, "Apollo Athenaa is more than a hospital. It’s a movement aimed at transforming cancer care for women." She described the center’s comprehensive services, including preventive screenings, advanced diagnostics, surgical oncology, breast oncoplasty, fertility preservation, reconstructive care, onco-psychology, nutrition support, physiotherapy, and palliative care. "These services are designed around women’s unique medical and emotional needs," Reddy added, emphasizing a holistic approach to care.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta underscored the importance of specialized care, stating, "Apollo Athenaa marks a milestone in empowering women by ensuring dignity, privacy, and timely medical intervention." She highlighted the growing incidence of breast and cervical cancers as a driving factor for the establishment of targeted medical infrastructure.
